In light of the increasing frequency of cyberattacks – aimed specifically at extorting businesses by stealing personal information and/or intellectual property, denying access to services through ransomware or, frequently, both – Boards and Management are under pressure to assess their organisation’s ability to anticipate, withstand, contain and rapidly recover from such attacks.

Further, this is even more relevant when entering into relationships with 3rd parties, where the management and mitigation of cyber-risk is in the hands of the service provider. Of particular interest are the arrangements made to protect the application and its data from unauthorized access – this necessitating a look into the way the application is hosted, administered, and managed.

With new legislation being introduce like POPIA, organizations have a legal obligation to protect customer data and report when data breaches occur. This requires organisations to proactively manage security but also respond appropriately when a breach does occur.
